Mr. Boynton is the Advisor for Key Club at Jonathan Law. Advocate Entertainment Editor Joey Amaro interviewed Boynton about the club. 

Joey Amaro: What does Key Club do at Law?

Mr. Boynton: At Law, the Key Club serves as guides on Parents Night and Open House, serves as ushers at Senior Awards Night, All-School Awards night and we pass out programs at Graduation and work concessions during wrestling season.

JA: What kinds of volunteer activities and events do members participate in?

MB: We volunteer for many organizations in the community (the Milford Kiwanis Club, The Milford Elks Club), we volunteer at the Oyster Fest, ring the bell for the Salvation Army, hold food drives, volunteer at 5K road races, and volunteer at the Touch a Truck at Eisenhower to name a few.

JA: How often does Key Club meet?

MB: Key Club meets every Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the cafe.

JA: Are there any requirements or costs to become a member?

MB: In order to join, you have to want to volunteer in your school and community. Key Club is the world’s largest high school volunteer organization in the world. There is a $20 membership dues fee each year. This covers national and district fees and you receive a membership pin and certificate. It also makes you eligible to attend the District Conference which is in Portland, Maine, this year.

JA: What leadership opportunities are available in Key Club?

MB: At the local level here at Law, you can run for President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Sergeant At Arms. If you really want to be involved on the district level, you can run for Governor, District Secretary, District Bulletin Editor, or Lieutenant Governor. These officers run all the clubs in New England.
