The Jonathan Law French Club, advised by French teacher Dr. Evans, will be starting soon. 

The French Club is a place where those with fellow interest in the Francophone world, taking French or not, participate in meetings and activities. It was established in 2023 after a student took the idea of a French Club to Evans.

“What I want for the future of the French Club is for it to continue to be an outlet for creativity,” Evans said. “and a warm and inviting environment for any JL student who is passionate about the language and cultures of the Francophone world.” 

The French Club hosts many activities such as crepe making, French movie showings, French holiday crafts, and much more.

“For me, the French Club is a space where I’m not only practicing my French,” junior member Danna Caivinagua said. “But also a place where I feel safe and welcome.”

Along with activities done within the club, the French Club also works with the French Honor Society to advocate for the study of French along with spreading awareness of the vastness and diversity of the French-speaking world to the Law community.

“My duties as a member of the French Club are to teach people about French culture,” junior member Ziad Elsayed said. “And to get people together during special events.”

The French Club typically has an average of about 20-25 students but accepts anyone who wants to join including those who are not currently in French. The club is ready to embrace those who are curious about Francophone countries while trying to create a certain environment.

“I want to join the French Club because it is a great way to have fun and connect with your peers while  learning a new language and culture,” freshman Shravya Thokola said. “I have connected with so many people and made so many friends with French class, so I want to join the club.” 

Evans said that anyone can join and everyone can run for office including freshmens. There are no current officers but every member has their own duties and responsibilities.

“I try to be respectful, involved, and helpful whenever I can,” Caivinagua said. “Which I think is something every member can contribute to the club.”  

The French Club is eager to start up and is ready for their first meeting which will be announced soon.
