The Jonathan Law Model U.N. Club is back for the 2026-2027 school year.

Students who participate in the club shared how much fun they have and their hopes for the upcoming year and events. Club advisor Mr. Evanko said the club is always looking for new members.

“People should join Model U.N. because it is fun,” Evanko said. “You learn about international issues; you learn the rules of parliamentary debate and how to research; you meet people from all around the world and in your school community. It is really an incredible experience.” 

A typical Model U.N. meeting consists of topics such as fundraising, practicing debate skills, along with research skills. 

“The Model United Nations club simulates international relations,” Evanko said. “We spend most of the year fundraising for our big trip to New York City in March, where we debate various topics with students from around the world. We practice parliamentary debate and hold practice sessions over the course of the year.”

Model U.N. has been a club at Law since the 2013-2014 school year and Evanko has been the advisor since the start. Officers in Model U.N. work closely with Evanko on planning their annual New York trip, fundraisers, and meetings. 

“I run meetings, create plans for meetings (such as mock debates), spread information about what is expected of members, and I coordinate fundraising with the other officers,” Senior Vice President Ayaan Ahmed said.

Towards the end of the school year, the Model U.N. Club goes to New York, where they participate in debates and continue learning about other countries. 

“My favorite memory of the New York Model U.N. conference has been seeing Law graduates get involved in NHSMUN (the organization that runs the conference),” Evanko said. “We have had many alumni serve later on as committee chairs and in leadership roles in NHSMUN over the years.”

Students are already planning for the March trip.

“Some advice I would give to new Model U.N. members would be to study their topic ahead of time and know it well,” Senior Co-President Matthew Montini said.  “The trip is much more fun when you can participate in the conferences and understand what they’re about.”

Model U.N. is an exciting club for the Jonathan Law students as it provides a space for students to meet new people and expand friendships and understandings of others.

“I’m looking forward to meeting new people from other countries,” junior club member Dylan O’Neil said.
