Jonathan Law’s Future Business Leaders of America Club had its first meeting of the year on Tuesday, September 22, in Room 79 during Advisory. 

This year’s FBLA Club is looking for students who want to explore the “behind the scenes” of business. Members of the club will get to see what different career paths actually entail while attending meetings and local competitions and listening to guest speakers.

“I decided to become the FBLA Advisor because I had run the club at my previous school and saw firsthand what a great way it was for students to learn about the world of business,” FBLA Club Advisor Mrs. Israelite said. “On top of that, FBLA opens the door to scholarships at certain universities and gives students the chance to build leadership and project management skills that will serve them well in their future careers.”

With the help of student participation, FBLA Club will thrive to reach set goals. Members of the club are committed, curious, and ready to expand. 

“This year, our main goals for FBLA are building engagement, expanding membership, and creating more opportunities for students to explore business, leadership, and career development,” senior Doreen Lin said. “A common misconception is that clubs like FBLA are only for students interested in business – but business exists in every field, so no matter what your interests are, FBLA has something for you.”

Many seniors have been dedicated members of the club since their freshman year. Choosing to stay a part of the club was driven by the shared passion of business related interest. 

“My favorite experiences have been the trips to the Federal Reserve and Madison Square Garden,” senior Arnav Saxena said. “These trips were fun and gave me the opportunity to learn about business and finance outside of the classroom.”

In order to provide satisfaction with everyone’s needs in the club, FBLA uses an organized structure. Officer positions are a necessity for running the club smoothly.

“Officer positions help keep the club on a solid foundation,” senior Community Service Organizer HarKaran Sekon said. “The most important positions are President, Vice President, and Treasurer.”

The officer positions include: President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, Program Director, Community Service Coordinator, Development Director, and Communications Management.

FBLA Club has already sparked an interest in this year’s freshmen. 

“I’m hoping to gain more knowledge on business skills because I believe that is something I want to pursue in my future,” freshman member Avni Sekon said. “I heard the club goes to regional competitions, and I’m excited to be a part of that.”
