With the 2026 season underway, the Jonathan Law boys cross country team is focused on improving every day and competing for a Milford City Championship.
Head Coach Mr. Beler said the team’s main goal this season is simple: “Win every day.” The team is working to stay healthy while continuing to push themselves and improve throughout the season.
Law’s training includes a variety of workouts designed to help runners develop different parts of their racing. The team uses 1,000-meter repeats to build endurance, long runs of more than six miles, and hill workouts to improve strength.
“We want our runners to keep improving without putting their health at risk,” Beler said. “The goal is to get better every day and be ready when championship season comes around.”
The Lawmen will be led by captains Matt Montini, Pierce Marini and Carter Rosiak. The team will also look to several returning runners and newcomers to make an impact, including Stanley Jiang, Alex Morillo, Lafayama Arman and Justin Berendt.
As one of the team’s captains, Montini knows the importance of setting an example for the rest of the team.
“As captains, we want to push everyone to work hard and stay together,” Montini said. “If we can keep improving throughout the season, I think we can accomplish what we want to.”
Morillo is another runner expected to contribute to the team this season. With a strong focus on training and consistency, he believes the team’s work during practices will help them when they race.
“We’ve been putting in a lot of work, and I think it’s going to pay off,” Morillo said. “Everyone is pushing each other, and that makes us better as a team.”
The Lawmen will also have new runners looking to make an impact. Lafayama is one of the team’s top newcomers and will have an opportunity to compete alongside Law’s experienced runners.
“I’m excited to be part of the team and see what I can do this season,” Lafayama said. “I want to keep improving and help the team wherever I can.”
For Law, the biggest goal of the season is winning the Milford City Championship and keeping the Milford Road Runners Trophy at Jonathan Law. With a combination of experienced runners, new talent and hard training, the Lawmen are looking to make their mark throughout the season.
The team will continue to focus on staying healthy, improving through each workout and competing together as they work toward their goals.
