The Jonathan Law football team is gearing up for its season-opening road game against Hamden on September 10 at 6:00 p.m.

Senior captain and quarterback Matthew Witteman is looking to get the offense on the same page and off to a good start.

“I think we can accomplish a lot this season and hopefully earn a few games past Thanksgiving,” Witteman said. “We will get there by staying consistent offensively and getting better every day.”

Last season, Jonathan Law went 8-3, culminating in a dominating 33-6 win against Foran to keep the Thanksgiving Trophy at Law for the sixth consecutive year. 

Head Coach Ryan Pearson believes that success goes beyond the team’s record, emphasizing effort and pride throughout the season.

“What I need to see from the team to have a successful season is the players play every game with a relentless effort, regardless of win or loss,” Pearson said. 

As the team prepares for the upcoming season, senior defensive tackle Jackson King pointed out the importance of this senior class and communicating with the rest of the team.

“On defense, we expect to lead by example, communicate, and hold each other accountable,” King said. “This senior class means a lot to me. We’ve grown up playing together and have been through a lot.”

After suffering a heartbreaking 32-29 loss to Ledyard in the Class SS quarterfinals last season, Law will again be looking to gain some extra games after Thanksgiving.

This season, Law will host Northwest Catholic, Cheshire, and North Haven, and, more importantly, host the Thanksgiving game against Foran.
