Fall SCC Scholar-Athlete August Oliveira has been a perfect example of leading in the pool as a Law swim captain as well as excelling in the classroom.

As the fall athletic season comes to an end, the SCC honors seniors who have gone above and beyond to represent their school academically and athletically.

Oliveira has worked incredibly hard to get to this point, and it is evident in the appreciation shown by her teammates and coaches. Despite the difficulty of balancing work and swimming, she manages to express her gratitude for her team and their progress.

“The best part of the season so far has been seeing how much we have progressed and grown together as a team, Oliveira said.” ”Even with a small team, we have continued to work hard, push each other, and improve every day.”

Fellow teammate and captain Aislyn McKernan believes the award couldn’t have been given to a more deserving athlete.

“She deserves the SCC award because she excels in and out of the pool,” McKernan said. “She works very hard to keep good academics, is in two clubs, and has done amazing as a freestyle sprinter and breaststroker on the team.”

Head Coach Mr. Rosner has emphasized August’s ability to lead by example throughout the season.

“She always pushes herself in all situations and gives her absolute best to the team,” Rosner said. “She is vocal at all the right times and is great at offering encouragement or guidance to her teammates.”

Sophomore Alex Oliveira mentioned her ability to be a role model for the rest of the team.

“August shows strong leadership skills by motivating her teammates, setting a positive example, and encouraging everyone to do their best,” Alex Oliveira said. “She is also an amazing supporter as you can always find her at the end of your lane cheering you on.”

Being a student athlete takes a toll on you, but August has managed to succeed.

“The most difficult part about being a student athlete is managing my time between school, practices, meets, and my personal life,” August Oliveira said. “It can be stressful at times, especially when I have a lot of school work and sports commitments.”

Rosner is proud of the way Oliveira has led this season, especially putting her team’s interests first.

“She has scored big points for us in every meet and those have led us to a couple close victories,” Rosner said. “She will swim anything we ask her to do to put the team in the best position to be successful, even if it’s not her best event.”
