The Law girls cross country season is about to begin.

The team’s first meet is September 9 at East Haven. Senior Captain Jackie Rivera has many goals for the 2026 season.

“Some goals for our team this year is to get our varsity team under 25 minutes for our races,” Rivera said. “But the biggest goal is to get everyone on the team running and completing races injury-free, as we struggled with a lot of injuries last year.”

Members of the team said there is a lot to look forward to during this upcoming season.

“Something I am looking forward to this season is running at states and seeing how well everyone improved from last year,” Senior Captain Alivia Kaplanka said. ”I am also looking forward to Milford Champs and hopefully winning, which could be possible.”

The girls cross country team isn’t just about running. It’s about creating great relationships with your teammates.

“I also love the tight bonds that come out of the sport,” Senior Captain Rica Mayugba said. ”I’ve met some of my best friends from cross country, and I couldn’t imagine where I would be without them.”

Junior Emma Heinmiller will be a key asset to the team this season.

“My personal goal is for me to be able to get my personal record and have a good overall season,” Heinmiller said. “I hope this season I can help push people and make everyone better.”

One goal the entire team shares is to win the Milford Champions Meet.

“I’m looking forward to our Milford Champions Meet and hopefully bringing the trophy home,” Mayugba said. “I know with all the time and effort we’ve been putting in early in the season, hopefully we can do great things there.”

Rivera has set several personal goals for the season.

“A personal goal for me this season is to break 24:00 in the 5K,” Rivera said. “I got close to it my freshman year, but due to my injuries I haven’t been able to get close to it in the following years. Another personal goal would, once again, be to run at States with the varsity team.”
