The Law boys soccer team is preparing to begin its fall season this week after weeks of preparation and anticipation.
One of the key members of the team this season is senior captain and midfielder Tyler Stankevich. As he enters his final season, Stankevich said he is excited to take on a leadership role and help guide his teammates throughout the season.
“It means the world to me. I feel like I’ve improved a lot since last year, both as a player and as a leader, and I’m really grateful to have the opportunity to be captain again,” Stankevich said.
Being a captain comes with many responsibilities and provides an opportunity to lead both on and off the field. Stankevich said one of his main goals this season is to bring energy and intensity to every game.
“I learned how important it is to bring intensity and energy onto the field. I want to lead by example and make sure we play with that intensity every game,” Stankevich said.
Having personal and team goals can help motivate players throughout the season. Stankevich has set goals for himself while also looking forward to competing against familiar opponents.
“Personally, I want to score my first varsity goal. As a team, I want us to beat Foran again and continue building on what we accomplished last season,” Stankevich said.
Stankevich’s leadership extends beyond the soccer field, as being a supportive teammate is another important part of his role as captain.
“He’s a grade-A teammate both on and off the field. He’s always looking out for his friends, his team, and the people around him, and he always puts the team’s interests first,” senior Evan Esposito said.
With the season beginning this week, Stankevich and the rest of the team are looking forward to putting their preparation to work and starting the season strong.
