“Obsession” is a psychological horror film from 2026 that was both directed and written by Curry Barker. Michael Johnston plays the role of Bear, and Inde Navarrette plays the part of Nikki. The film combines horror, romance, and dark humor and illustrates the consequences that arise when love turns unhealthy. Jealousy, insecurity, and the desire to control another person’s emotions are the movie’s main themes.
The film centers on Bear, a young man in love with his childhood friend and fellow worker, Nikki. Although he hopes that Nikki will love him, Bear finds it difficult to come to terms with the idea that feelings cannot be made to happen. He comes across a strange item known as a “One Wish Willow” and uses it to make a wish concerning Nikki. Initially, the wish appears as if it might resolve his difficulties, but soon everything turns strange and frightening. The movie holds back on revealing the most important events, thus making the story interesting without disclosing the ending.
A highlight of the film “Obsession” is the way it transforms an ordinary crush into something scary. Bear’s emotions begin as love but gradually turn into a desire for control. The movie sends out a key message that true love should be based on trust and respect for choice. It illustrates that forcing someone to feel certain emotions can lead to serious difficulties.
The movie is also enjoyable because of the actors. Michael Johnston carries out a good performance as Bear, portraying him as awkward and nervous. The way he acts shows the changes that take place in his character as he becomes more obsessed. Inde Navarrette is likewise strong in the role of Nikki, and as the story progresses, her performance becomes more intense, which makes certain scenes exciting and uncomfortable.
Another strength is Curry Barker’s direction. Rather than relying solely on jump scares, the film manages to create a sense of suspense and gives ordinary situations a creepy atmosphere. The fact that the movie combines horror with dark humor is what sets “Obsession” apart from other horror films. Among the most memorable scenes are those relating to Bear’s wish as they illustrate how his dream gradually turns into a nightmare. A line that matches the film’s message is, “You can’t make someone love you.”
There are certain drawbacks in the film. A number of the scenes are exaggerated and might appear unrealistic. The characters could have been given more development before the main events, and adding more background information about Bear and Nikki would have made their relationship more significant.
The film “Obsession” is both eerie and enjoyable, presenting a clear message concerning love and control. It’s worth seeing because of the quality of the acting, the suspense, the humor, and the memorable scenes.
