Construction began on the Jonathan Law tech wing on August 5 after a month-long delay. 

The construction project has caused several challenges for this school year, including new parking lot regulations and teachers moving classrooms. The construction is estimated to be completed by late June of 2027. 

Law Principal Mr. Darcy is excited about these new additions.

“The construction project will provide us with state-of-the-art manufacturing, computer/robotics, construction, and transportation program spaces,” Darcy said. “We will also have a brand new Child Development Center. All of these spaces will provide our students with exciting career choices.”

In the meantime, the construction has caused a disturbance to the traffic patterns and parking patterns at Law. 

“The biggest change is that we had to relocate where our buses pick up students at the end of the day,” Dean of Students Mr. Ragaini said. “Because of the construction, we no longer have enough room in the normal bus area, and we are missing a lane that the buses need to safely exit. As a result, we switched the teacher and student parking lots. We have also moved parent drop-off and pick-up to the auditorium side of the building.”

Some students at Law have expressed their concerns about the changes. Senior class president McKenzie Forte has voiced her challenges with the situation. 

“Not only did it impact our parking lots, but as Drum Major of the Jonathan Law Band, the construction displaced us from running our Band Camp here at Law this summer,” Forte said. “Instead, our band was put on the unmarked field of West Shore Middle School, impacting our performance and the abilities of our students.”

Juniors at Law were prohibited from parking on school campus until September 8 due to a lack of available parking spaces to start the year. Junior Dani Kotansky struggled with this sudden change.

“While I wish there was another area that was guaranteed parking for juniors, I understand that this project was only confirmed recently and it would have been difficult to come up with other arrangements,” Kotansky said.

Although some challenges have arisen, many advantages have been gained from the construction. Choir Director Ms. Jones describes her experience with the classroom location changes.

“This has actually benefited our program quite a deal because it is the first time since I have been at the school that all of the choir and music electives are in the same room,” Jones said. “This helps with keeping our equipment functioning properly, creates ample space for us to conduct music classes appropriately, and finally fits our needs and the whole choir for rehearsals and performances.”
