Due to the ongoing construction project at Jonathan Law, parking had to be adjusted to start the new school year.

Students now have assigned parking spots and must now park in what was formerly the faculty lot. Only senior were allowed to park on campus with juniors being allowed to park starting the week of September 8.

Law Principal Mr. Darcy explained the difficulties the school faced with parking the first week of school.

“The biggest challenge is not having the ability to allow all students to park at school due to losing parking spaces,” Darcy said. “Bus pick up has changed to the back of the building this year.” 

Vice Principal Mrs. Sulzycki said there have only been a few minor parking issues so far.

“At this point we are dealing with this on a case by case basis,” Sulzycki said. “We had a few adults parking without passes that did it by accident and we had them move their cars. If a student is parking without a pass on purpose they would be referred to (Dean of Students) Mr. Ragaini.”

Since juniors are unable to park until the week of September 8, they had to find alternate ways to school or somewhere else to park. 

Junior Gabrielle Rodriguez now has to take into account the time to walk into school every morning. 

“When planning what time I leave my house each morning, I now have to take into account my walk through the school parking lot in order to make it to school on time,”  Rodriguez said. 

Staff members were also assigned new parking locations this year – near the new gym and auditorium.

Math teacher Mr. Ruzbarsky believes that the new parking can help resolve parking problems Law had in the past. 

“I love the new parking,” Ruzbarsky said. “It helps with a few issues we have had in previous years.”

Senior Addyson Smith is still adjusting to the new parking rules but is already seeing a change.

“I am a little disappointed that I can’t park next to my friends anymore at school,” Smith said. “But I am very happy that I never have to fight for a parking spot since they are assigned. This allows me to wake up later and have more time to get ready each morning.”
