A group of Jonathan Law students interested in technology wanted to come together to create a space where kids could use their creative ability to learn and show off different coding ideas and skills.
That group has become Law’s Computer Science Club, run by Senior Presidents Rithvik Muthyapu and Jacy Ciszkowski, along with Advisor Ms. Corriveau. The club meets every other Thursday right after school in Room 44.
“We started this club because we noticed a lack of tech opportunities at our school,” Muthyapu said. “We had a Science Club for Science students, FBLA for Business, and Model U..N for Political Science, but nothing for tech.”
Joining and participating in this club is very simple. There are no requirements for any students interested in attending. Computer Science Club is open to all grades and skill levels.
This club is looking to offer numerous different opportunities to get students involved in all areas of tech.
“The main goal is to introduce people to the field of technology through easy code tutorials, outreach opportunities, and guest speakers,” Ciszkowski said. “We are also looking into competitions to allow students to test their skills in real-world scenarios.”
Not only does this club come with learning about different codes or ways computers work, it also comes with learning great collaborative skills. Members will have the opportunity to meet new people and create new friendships all while learning about technology.
“I see the kids working together to teach each other about Computer sScience as well as finding ways of getting other people excited to learn about Computer Science,” Corriveau said. “We are hoping to run some fun contests as well as do some community outreach programs at the middle schools.”
