Jonathan Law Class of 2026 graduate Molly Lynch has begun her first year of college at Emerson in Boston, Massachusetts, majoring in Journalism. 

So far, Lynch has had a great first few weeks, enjoying her classes and making friends. The most difficult challenge she has faced so far is becoming acquainted with her new surroundings. 

“My college experience has been great,” Lynch said. “It’s been so fun to take new classes and meet new people from all over the world. My favorite part about college so far has definitely been making new friends. The hardest adjustment for me was adapting to a new way of living since I am now living in Boston, and it is definitely a change from living in Connecticut.”

Lynch is so far loving her classes. She is taking Foundations of Journalism, Discovering Journalism, Intro To College Writing, and Foundations of Speech Communications, which is a class on public speaking. Her favorite is the Foundations of Journalism class. 

Lynch shares that the easiest way to make friends when going to college is introducing yourself to as many people as possible. She also shares what other advice she has for those whose next step in college. 

“I found that just going up to people and introducing yourself is the easiest way to make new friends,” Lynch said. “My advice for those going into college next year is to have so much fun and make the most out of it. Get out of your comfort zone and become involved in anything that interests you.”

Over the first few weeks at college, Lynch is already involved in several dance organizations. 

“I am a part of EDC and EUDT, Emerson’s two student-run dance organizations,” Lynch said. “We just had auditions for both last weekend, and rehearsals start this week and I’ve been having the best time.”

Lynch does not yet have an idea where she will be after college, but she is hopeful that during her time at Emerson, she will figure it out. 

“I definitely want to do something in the field of Journalism, but I think by continuing my education here at Emerson that I will eventually figure it out within the four years,” Lynch said.
