“Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys,” better known as “Danger Days” is the fourth studio album from the band “My Chemical Romance.” The album was released on November 22, 2010, and the primary musical inspiration for the album came from contemporary rock, and psychedelic rock bands of the sixties and seventies. It builds on the album’s lore of rebels fighting against a sterile, authoritarian, and controlling society. It was the final album released by the band before their six-year disbandment in 2013.
“Na Na Na (Na Na Na)” is the first single that was released by the band and is an explosive, high-energy punk-rock track, acting as the anthem of this album. They sing, “Love, gimme love, gimme love / I don’t need it, but I’ll take what I want from your heart / And I’ll keep it in a bag, in a box / Put an “X” on the floor.” These lyrics show how random and energetic it is which reflects in the album.
“Planetary (GO!)” is the celebration of living life with urgency and rejecting conformity. Lead singer Gerard Way described it as a beacon of hope and a way to embrace your identity. It’s about dancing, rebelling against sterile conformity, and moving forward without regret. Way sings, “Ladies and gentlemen, truth is now acceptable / Fame is now injectable, process the progress / This core is critical, faith is unavailable (hey, hey) / Lives become incredible now, please understand that” and “I can’t slow down, I won’t be waiting for you / I can’t stop now because I’m dancing.”
“Destroya” is one of the most iconic songs. It is an aggressive, self-empowering anthem about rebellion, rejecting oppressive religious dogma, and finding faith in yourself rather than waiting for a higher power. Way sings, “You don’t believe in God / I don’t believe in luck / They don’t believe in us / I believe we’re the enemy” and “They don’t like who you are / You won’t like where we’ll go / Brother, protect me now / With blood they wash in the money!”
