The Jonathan Law girls track team is closing in on the end of its season and hoping to end on a positive note.
Law was led this season by captains Alani Velez, Avery Moulton, Molly Croce, and Charlotte Baldieri. The team posted many personal bests during the regular season and had several girls place at SCCs.
Senior Captain Alani Velez has many positive remarks about the past season and was very excited for post season to begin.
“The team did great this season,” Velez said. “We had a lot of young kids join this year, but we also had a lot of upperclassmen step up and show leadership. In terms of States, I’m excited to watch the team compete at a high level.”
Senior Captain Avery Moulton worked tirelessly to reach her goals.
“My season started out a little rough,” Moulton said. “I was struggling to hit my time in my 800M and ended up getting really frustrated. After a few meets, I was finally able to get it and PR by four seconds.”
Junior Talia Hagan had a standout season and broke the school record in the 300M hurdles.
“A goal I had was to break the 300H school record, which I did at the previous meet, but my main goal is to make New Balance Nationals for the 300H, which I am 0.8 seconds away from, and also break the school record for the 200M, which I’m 0.4 seconds away from,” Hagan said.
Every season has obstacles, and Senior Captain Molly Croce faced the difficult challenge of an ACL injury this past year.
“My biggest challenge was definitely dealing with my injury throughout this season,” said Croce. “Not being able to be a part of the 4×100 team and run my normal times and get personal records in my other events was frustrating, but seeing my teammates succeed and have fun in their events made me happy and helped me stay positive throughout the season. It also showed me that being a captain is not just about performance but also about leading and supporting your team.”
