The Jonathan Law baseball team finished the year with a 9-11 record and qualified for the Class M State Tournament.

The season featured some ups and downs, but the team was able to reach its ultimate goal of making the postseason.

“I think the season has been solid overall,” Assistant Coach Mr. McPartland said. “We’re a young team, but we’ve been competitive at every position and have continued to improve day by day. Like any team during any season, we’ve had some ups and downs, but the growth we’ve shown has been the most important piece in my opinion.”

The team has many strengths, but McPartland said there is always room for improvement. This season, the goal has been to get the team’s hitting and pitching clicking at the same time.

“Pitchers need to be confident and trust their pitches to get outs and not be scared of getting hit,” Senior Captain Jackson Judge said. “Our hitters need to work on getting timely hits and not leaving runners on base.”

There were many memorable moments throughout the season that boosted team morale and helped them succeed against tough competition.

“After getting mercy-ruled by North Haven in the first half of the year, we went to their home field and beat them (the second time),” Junior Captain Aiden Ramos said.

The Class M State Tournament is approaching, and the Lawmen are preparing for it in many different ways.

“Were really focused on staying consistent with our approach and sticking to what has helped us improve all season,” McPartland said. “Practices have been dialed in and crisp, we focus a ton on different situations we may run into and maintain a competitive edge.”

This year, the team has a goal of advancing multiple rounds in States.

“Every year we have the same first goal of making States,” Judge said. “Last year, we made it and lost in the first round. This year, we’re looking to move the mark and win a few States games. We have a tough first game, but we’re ready to take on the challenge and move on.”
