Nick Shugrue is a senior at Jonathan Law this year who has been very involved in both the school and local community throughout his high school career. He ran cross country for four years and was a captain for his senior season; Shugrue also was a section leader in Law’s band beginning his freshman year. Additionally, in December of 2019 he was awarded the Devon Rotary Award for Community Service. With graduation in the coming weeks, Advocate Staff Reporter Maddie Papcun sat down with Shugrue to discuss his plans going forward and the ongoing social distancing occurring.

Maddie Papcun: Where are you going to college?

Nick Shugrue: I will be attending Pennsylvania State University in the fall of 2020.

MP: What are you majoring in?

NS: I am majoring in chemistry at Penn State’s Eberly College of Science.

MP: What are you doing to pass the time at home?

NS: To pass time in social isolation, I watch videos on YouTube, watch movies on Netflix and Amazon Prime, I play video games, I swim in the pool, I chill in the hot tub, and I listen to music. I’ve been listening to a lot of Mac DeMarco recently and The Strokes just came out with an album that has some pretty good songs on it.

MP: What is your favorite Netflix show or movie that you recently watched?

NS: My favorite thing on Netflix that I’ve watched on Netflix recently is “James Acaster: Repertoire.” It’s a comedy special with four episodes featuring English comedian James Acaster. I’ve watched it several times in the past and I find it uniquely entertaining. He has a specific brand of humor that is not for everybody, but highly entertaining for anyone interested.

MP: What do you want to say to your fellow classmates and teachers?

NS: If I could tell my fellow classmates and teachers anything, it would be to stay safe, keep socially distancing, try to only buy what is absolutely necessary, and that I hope to see them as soon as it is safe to do so.
