The Law boys swim team ended its season on a high note.
This year, the boys swim team finished off with an overall record of 2-12 but many individual members qualified for states.
In addition, almost all team members competed in the SCC meet at Southern Connecticut State University.
Senior captain Sean Ancheta had a successful final season with the team. He posted personal bests in all of his events and was one of the qualifiers for SCCs.
“I think the season was great for the team,” Ancheta said. “Everyone did their best in making personal records and motivating each other during the meets.”
Senior captain Manar Almidani also had a great final season.
“Individually this season, I got a best time for all events and I also qualified for SCC trials in the 50 free and 100 breast,” Almidani said.
Both Ancheta and Almidani really enjoyed being captain this season.
“Being captain of the team was a somewhat challenging job to keep the team close and be a model for the captains next year,” Almidani said.
Ancheta had similar thoughts about being a captain of the team.
“I was helping out my coaches and teammates,” Ancheta said. “I felt like I got to understand everyone a little more as a captain.”
Junior Molly Mercaldo also had a successful season with the team. She made it to both states and SCCs, and also set many new personal records for herself.
“I achieved my personal goals in my main event in swim. As a team we have done well and are happy with our successes,” Mercaldo said.
Along with Mercaldo, Junior Jake Gwirtz made it to both states and SCCs for the third season in a row.
Bobby Fisk, a junior on the team, improved greatly this season and accomplished some of his personal goals this season, such as making states in one of the relays.
“This year was a successful year for me,” Fisk said. “I feel like I’ve gotten so much better and I’m already looking forward to next season. This season, I made SCCs for the first time, and I made it to states in my relay team.”
Assistant coach Ms. Bolcer had a great time coaching the boys team this year.
“It was such a pleasure coaching the boys this season,” Bolcer said. “They all worked so hard and it showed many of the swimmers dropping time and beating personal bests throughout the season. Some swimmers who come to mind are Manar Almidani, Bobby Fisk, and Jake Gwirtz, for achieving their goals this season.”
