The Jonathan Law wrestling team boasted many individual and team accomplishments this year.

Senior captain Daniel Ouellette and freshman Troy Anderson went to SCCs while sophomore Kevin Brockson qualified for State Opens.

“We were pretty close, we were 16 and 14, we did OK but we did have a few wins that slipped away from us that we could’ve won,” assistant coach Mr. Ruzbarsky said.

During the season a few players were injured, but the team managed to make it through until the end.

“We had our ups and downs this season,” Ruzbarsky said. “We had a couple kids get injured at certain times that we weren’t able to make our goal of 20 wins.”

Despite these obstacles,  always having a good time wrestling and cheering on their teammates.

“I had a lot of fun with the team at Class Ms,” Ouellette said. “It’s a fun experience besides the wrestling part.”

The Lawmen Invitational Tournament was also a success for Ouellette, who finished first.

Even though the team was young this year, they all managed to do their best.

“The team was very young this year, but we managed to win a decent amount of matches and everyone improved significantly over the course of the year,” junior Matt Grace said.

Grace said that he looks up to his coaches and loves working with them.

“(Head coach Mr. Schoonmaker) and Ruz are both fantastic coaches who always push me to do better at this sport,” Grace said.

Anderson has helped the team come close to reaching their goal in more ways than one.

“I wrestled well this season and took third at SCC’s and I had a winning record,” said Anderson.

Ruzbarsky has high hopes for new wrestlers and the team as a whole.

“Next year we are gonna have some pretty high hopes, because we have a lot of returners coming back next season,” Ruzbarsky said. “We are definitely going to be looking for 20 plus wins and looking to contend for the SCC Division Championship.”
