The Law girls basketball season was a slam dunk.
The team finished the regular season with a record of 10-10 and qualified for the SCC Tournament and for states.
The team had many key players, including senior captains Laura Dulin, Erin Saley, Jess Centore, and Kailee Frank that helped lead them to victory.
“It was a great season,” head coach Mr. Young said. “We overcame a lot of adversity and got many good contributions from freshman to senior. The seniors have had a huge impact on the team and coaching staff.”
The team connected on and off the court and that closeness helped them get the results they wanted. They introduced strong players Cali Jolley, Fallon Andriolas, and Samara Thacker to varsity as freshmen.
“I loved the incoming freshman, they really helped out on varsity,” senior Paige Szygiel said. “It was fun to be with the team everyday.”
As a freshman, Thacker got a lot of playing time that benefited the team. Against Amity, Thacker scored the game-winning free throw.
“It was a fun new experience to play with older girls and they made me a lot better for next year,” Thacker said
During the season, Dulin achieved a personal record scoring her 1,000th point.
“It was great getting 1,000 points,” senior Captain Laura Dulin said. “It was such a relief because I knew I was so close and to finally do it was very exciting.”
Dulin has played varsity basketball at Law since she was a freshman and was a captain her junior and senior year.
Members of the team said they will miss playing for Young next season.
“Mr. Young is a great coach, all of us were so close on and off the court,” Szygiel said. “He’s a great role model and helps all of us get better.”
Law defeated Amity 52-51 in the first round for SCCs before falling to Career in the second round. The Lady Lawmen lost to Farmington in the first round of the Class L State Tournament.
The girls also dominated their cross-town rival Foran 47-27 in the second meeting of the two teams this season.
