Senior captain Colby Brennan hopes to swim toward success in the upcoming season.

Brennan has been on the swim team since his freshman year. He was chosen to be a cptain last year (his junior year) and again this year as a senior.

“My personal goals are to beat my times from last season in all of my events,” Brennan said. “My goals for the team are to have us win at least two meets and have us be able to send as many swimmers as we can to SCCs”.

The boys swim team has many promising athletes, including senior captain Ian Hugo, senior James Mercaldo, junior Kevin Keramis, sophomore Jake Gwirtz, and sophomore Jack Pincus-Coyle.

The team has a goal of winning two meets, and plans to send eight swimmers to SCCs.

“In preparation for the season, I’ve been playing sports and keeping myself in shape,” Brennan said. “As a team we did dry land practices before the season began, and we have been pushing ourselves during practices.”

Hugo said that Brennan is well-prepared, supportive teammate.

“Colby is one of the most fit people on the team; he seems to always be in shape,” Hugo said. “Whether or not he’s in the water or on the sidelines, he is always cheering people on.”

Brennan focuses on and favors the 100 meter butterfly and 200 meter IM.

“Colby is an experienced swimmer who is willing to swim any event for the team,” senior James Mercaldo said. “He sets a good example by swimming his best every day and is happy to help the team out in any way he can, at every meet.”

Brennan is pushing this season to beat all of his personal records and to keep on improving as an athlete and as a leader.

“I think Colby is a really great motivator for the team, he never fails to make sure everyone tries their best, even if things aren’t going the way they want that day,” said junior boys swim manager Abby Williamson.

“Since freshman year I’ve definitely improved,” Brennan said, “My strokes are longer and stronger, and I have gotten a lot better at controlling my breathing while I’m swimming.”
