Junior Madison Sosa is ready to give it her all for the upcoming gymnastics season.

Sosa has been doing gymnastics outside of school at Polly’s Gymnastics year-round for 13 years and has been a part of the Law gymnastics since freshman year. As one of Law’s key gymnasts, she has many goals she wants to accomplish for the upcoming season.

“One of my goals this season is for our team to make states,” Sosa said. “We have been working hard as a team and I really think we will be able to accomplish it this season.”

Sosa competes in every event and her strongest is her floor routine.

“Before a meet, I usually go over my routines to prepare or I talk and get ready with my teammates so I can go out confident,” Sosa said.

Senior captain Niamh Nelson, who has been on the team with Sosa for three years, has seen great improvement in her ability to be a leader on the team.

“Maddie’s scores are going to really help the team out this year,” Nelson said. “She is really dedicated and puts in a lot of work in every event.”

Being a part of Law gymnastics is important to Sosa and is different to her than her Polly’s team outside of school.

“Law gym is different in that I have the opportunity to be on the same team as girls I usually compete against,” Sosa said.

Junior Kristin Frank has been on Sosa’s Polly’s team for 13 years as well and knows how hard she works at practice.

“Being on the same team as Maddie is a fun time, we help each other become better gymnasts and strive for success,” Frank said.

Gymnastics is a difficult sport to master and takes a lot practice and time to get it right.

“When I need help I go to my coaches or close friends on the team that cheer me up,” Sosa said. “I definitely want to beat my scores from last year and try to work on new skills on every event.”

Juniors Abby Williamson and Bianca Hanania, who are close friends with Sosa, know how committed she is to gymnastics.

“Even though we are not a part of the gymnastics team we still know about Maddie’s success through gymnastics and her talents,” Williamson and Hanania said. “She talks about it in school and we can tell she is truly dedicated.”

Junior Victoria Contaxis, a former gymnast and current manager for Law gymnastics, is one of Sosa’s best friends and sees great potential for Sosa in the future.

“She always focuses on every new skill and puts in 100% effort in every day,” Contaxis said.

Junior Melanie Coleman, another key gymnast on the team, knows how to help Sosa get ready before a meet.

“During meets Maddie supports us by cheering her hardest to make sure we know we can hit our routines so we keep going and try our hardest,” Coleman said.

With all of Sosa’s preparation for the upcoming season, she’s eager to see what’s in store.
