Law is finally moving into its winter sports season, and students are excited for those 7 p.m. boys basketball games.

The Lawmen are looking forward to improve on their 2-18 record from last year. The team plans on being more aggressive during their games this season.

There are two senior captains this year, Destin Johnson and Nolan Beardsley, and their goal this season is to lead their team to many accomplishments.

“As captain, I will get everyone ready for the games during our practices,” Beardsley said. “Our mindset is to play our absolute hardest all the time.”

The key members of this year’s season are Johnson, Beardsley, Justin McFadden, Matt Marino, and Evan Carollo. Head coach Mr. Dooley has very high hopes for these five players.

“We will have to be competitive in every game,” Carollo said. “Everyone has had a varsity experience and we all gel together as team when we work hard.”

Members of the team said that they each know what their job is on the court.

“To help my team this year I will run the offense and put the scorers, Justin and Nolan, in the position to make shots,” Johnson said. “Matt, Evan, and I play a big role on the court with defense for the team.”

The team is excited about the talent pool they have assembled this season.

“When you are a varsity player you have to be so aggressive when trying to stand out,” junior Jeremiah Bravo said. “You have to play your position well and know where you are on the court.”

Coach Dooley said he will do whatever it takes to push his athletes to the best of their ability.

“During practices we spend a lot of time trying to prove our offense philosophy,” Dooley said.

Along with Dooley, many of the players are well aware of the skills they need to improve on. All of the athletes’ answers were similar.

“We need to work on our attitude as well as finishing games the way we started them,” Carollo said. “It is important to stay up and continue to have energy throughout the whole game.”

Dooley and the members of the team all seem excited to play crosstown rival Foran twice this season.

“Foran is the team we need to beat,” Johnson said. “ We lost to them twice last year so it is very important that we beat them this season.”

The Lawmen are excited to kick off their season and start on a high note.

“I’m mostly excited for the fact that we have so many upperclassmen with a lot of experience in the program,” junior Matt Zancewicz said. “The team this year really knows how to work together because of that.”
