Senior captain and running back David Patrick is starting to reflect on his last year playing for the Law football team.
Patrick has been a member of the varsity team since his freshman year. This season, Patrick was chosen to be a team captain.
“Personally, good things that came for me this season involved becoming a leader and becoming a better player physically and mentally,” Patrick said.
The Law football team may not have performed as well as it hoped this season, but that hasn’t stopped Patrick from stepping up as a leader.
“As a team we became closer and learned to keep fighting, even when the results do not go the way you want them to,” Patrick said.
Patrick is a multi-sport athlete. He also plays lacrosse and track which keep him in shape year-round.
On and off the field, Patrick has an impact on all of his teammates.
“David impacted me greatly by hyping us up come game time, and leading us on the field by doing the right thing in certain situations like confrontations with other teams,” junior cornerback and running back Joe Mugford said. “He leads in practices and keeps us on track.”
The football team’s goals for finishing out the season are to beat Lyman Hall on November 13 (Law won 30-7, Patrick had a touchdown) and then to beat Foran on Thanksgiving. Patrick said he hopes to make some more memories in those games to add to the ones he has from earlier in the season.
“I would say our Senior Night vs. Hillhouse was the most memorable moment for me,” Patrick said. “We were down 26-0 at the half but made a comeback and were within 12 points about to score on the 11 yard line. Although we didn’t win, it was the best we’ve played all season as a team, and individually I had 110 all purpose yards (rushing and receiving), an interception, and seven tackles.”
Teammates say they are going to miss Patrick next season.
“David is a great leader, and is destined for success in the future,” Mugford said.
