COLUMNS: Stop & Smell The Roses: Spring Is Right Around The Corner
By Morgan Hennessey – Columns Editor
It’s February… the new year has come and so has the frozen, winter weather (finally). With all this snowfall so far this month, we have to remember to stay not only warm, but also safe. Most of us are new drivers, so just be careful out there because the roads are especially icy in the mornings before school.
February also means Valentine’s Day! In elementary school we gave all our friends in our class corny little Valentines, now we don’t have to put that tradition to rest because we are in high school. Valentine’s Day is a day to show anyone that you care about them, it isn’t a holiday just for couples. There’s no need to hesitate showing your friends how much you love them and care about your relationships. Whether you make them a card, or pink cookies or cupcakes, or just tell them you appreciate them, Valentine’s Day is supposed to be a happy day for all.
Next month is Cotillion, which is very exciting for the seniors as it is their last dance. It’s a great opportunity for everyone to get dressed up and spend a fun evening together, this year it will fall on March 13th. The girls need to start getting their dresses, and the task will probably cause nostalgic feelings of their junior prom…
Prom will come along with spring, and so many seniors say it’s their favorite high school memory. It’s a great experience, and an amazing night to spend with your friends. All juniors should go – at least to post-prom – it is not something that you want to regret missing. The girls are starting to look for dresses. A word of advice is to not settle on your first dress or even the first boutique you look at. There are thousands of dresses available, not only will you maybe find a better dress, but you will definitely find better deals throughout different boutiques.
You may think prom will break the bank, but there a ways to save money. Finding your dream prom dress at discount is a hunt worth taking. Also, when the time comes, you should look for friends and family who can do your hair and makeup for you. Cotillion is more relaxed, you don’t have to get a fancy updo or even a fancy, expensive dress for that matter.
Whichever function you’re preparing for over the next couple of months, remember it’ll be a memory worth making. Make the most of it and have fun.
Stay warm, stay happy, show your friends how much you love them, prepare for the best nights of your life, and in between all that – don’t forget to stop and smell the roses.
