NEWS: Law Welcomes Back Graduates

Jonathan Law hosted its annual Welcome Back Graduates event on January 7 in the school cafeteria.
Welcome Back Graduates, which is sponsored and organized by the National Honor Society, has been held at Law for years. It gives alumni a chance to come back to Law and talk about their experiences as college freshmen and give advice to juniors and seniors going through the application process.
The event is set up by Law chemistry teacher and National Honor Society advisor Ms. Turcotte.
This year, a total of 10 alumni came back to speak to Law’s students.
Alumnus John Bonetti says that he was happy to be a part of this event.
“I participated in Welcome Back Graduates because I always thought the insight of new college students was beneficial,” Bonetti said. “We have no reason to lie and therefore seniors stand much to gain from the experience.”
The alumni were asked questions by National Honor Society students. The questions dealt with dorm life, sports, academics, and even the food available at college.
Current Law students said that the event was very informative.
“Hearing what the Law alumni had to say about their college experiences really helped gave me some insight on what I might face in my freshman year of college,” senior Jake Rouse said. “I would recommend it to next year’s juniors and seniors.”
The event was set up so that students could have a taste of college before they have to encounter it for themselves.
The event was free of cost and it was easy for students to sign up. The presentations lasted one full period of the school day, and students who attended had an excused absence from class.
Students who attended the event loved that the alumni didn’t hold anything back, and are gave them their honest advice about college.
“My number one piece of advice for soon to be college students is to make certain that they are happy at all their schools, regardless of them being backups or safeties,” Bonetti said.
