Eric Torow has been a long-time member of the Jonathan Law custodial team.

He primarily works in the cafeteria and can be seen mopping up after the lunch waves are over and usually throws out the left over garbage produced by the students.

Torow’s job as a custodian is a very serious commitment considering he works long hours to keep the school looking clean and crisp. Torow gets to Law at 7 a.m. and starts his usual duties.

“In the morning I come in and get the garbage cans ready and prep them up,” Torow said. “I check the lavs and then I go outside and pick up around the area to make it look clean. Then I go around and police the area for a little bit.”

After Torow does his morning ritual, he takes a break and eats his lunch at 11 a.m. After Torow takes his lunch break he goes to the cafeteria during the students’ lunchtime.

“During the lunch schedules I go to the café and keep an eye on it,” Torow said. “Then from 12:15 to sixth period I clean the café, and during seventh period I get the cans out of there and put them back.”

At the end of the school day, Torow takes a break from 2:00 to 2:15 p.m. During his break, Eric meets up with his supervisor and they talk about the job and what is left to do for the day.

After the school day is over, Torow’s main jobs are cleaning the old boy’s locker room and going to the kitchen. Torow cleans the kitchen from 2:45 to 3:00 p.m. and then he goes to the bathrooms and makes sure they are pristine and spotless.

“I make sure every toilet is clean and I put in a fresh supply of toilet paper for every stall.” Torow said.

After Torow tidies up the bathrooms and the kitchen he does some odds and ends. Torow handles the shipping and receiving by taking out packages and bringing them in.

Torow also does some work with coordinating the mail and does some more grounds keeping outside after the school day. Torow does these jobs around the school up until the night crew comes in and sweeps the hallways. When the night crew comes in, Torow goes home and relaxes and then he repeats the cycle the following day.

Despite doing the same repetitive job every day, Torow still puts in 100 percent of his effort. Torow has been one of the longest working members of the custodian faculty at Jonathan Law and he still enjoys his job and all of the other custodian workers.

Senior Dean Bibens thinks that Torow does a really great job as a custodian.

“He is a good guy,” Bibens said. “He helps out around the school and does a great job cleaning it. He is very passionate about his job and is a phenomenal worker. Nobody does it better.”
