Swimming and diving season has come to a successful end for the Law girls after a long season of striving toward their personal and team goals.
Five teammates qualified for states this year: Elizabeth Gregorio, Angelica Jamie Loma, and Phoebe Herbert in their individual events and a relay team including sophomores Kelly Scianna, Haley McNulty.
“It’s been a long season but a wonderful journey,” head coach Ms. Paolini said.
This season the girls attained many goals including breaking the Jonathan Law High School record in the 200 medley relay by an impressive three seconds.
At Class M state finals Wednesday, November 13 they broke four more school records.
Loma broke her own record for 100 meter backstroke. Gregorio, McNulty, Herbert and Scianna broke the record for the 200 yard freestyle relay. Gregorio, Scianna, Herbert and Loma broke the 400 yard freestyle relay.
The Jonathan Law team beat two teams in the SCC trials and was just three points shy of beating the third.
“We did really well,” junior Kailee Tierney said. “Everyone swam fast and got great times.”
The school’s relay team made top 16 in SCCs qualifying them for states, which was a great accomplishment for the girls.
In their individual events, Gregorio made it into states with her 100 meter breaststroke, Herbert in the 50 freestyle and Loma with her 100 meter backstroke and butterfly.
“We’re going to miss all our seniors,” team manager Maren Sanchez said. “The team won’t be the same without them.”
The valuable seniors the team is losing include: Taylor Keramis, Brittany Scott, Gregorio, Elizabeth Fowler, Danica Wens and Rebecca Golden.
The current junior class will be stepping up next season to hopefully lead the team to more victories.
“We have a highly motivated junior class,” Paolini said. “It’s filled with strong leader personalities so next year should be a lot of fun.”
The team will continue to work toward their goals and toward breaking more records for the next seasons to come.
The upcoming seniors are a group of talented athletes and can achieve great things for the team.
“There will be more pressure next season as a senior,” Loma said. “But that’s a good thing.”
The successful season came to an end with a final record of 3-10.
