Mrs. Alison Crowther came to Jonathan Law on October 15 to talk to the students about why she started the Red Bandana Project in memory of her son.

Crowther talked to the students about Welles Remy Crowther, her son, and about what it meant to her that her son was a savior to many people on September 11, 2001.

“The enthusiasm of the students and faculty after the Red Bandana Walk was amazing and thought we should put a name to a face,” said history teacher Mrs. Rowley, who organized Crowther’s visit.

Welles Remy Crowther also known as the “Man in the Red Bandana,” rescued many people on 9/11 by going up the South Tower and helping them get to safety. Welles was only 24 when he died when a ceiling fell down and he was not able to get out.

“I don’t have a personal connection to 9/11, so having someone who lost someone close on that day, come and speak to us makes the event more real,” junior Carol Phillips.

Crowther spoke to the Jonathan Law student body about who Welles was as a person.

“It was a big impact because it was her son that died and her talking about not wasting time and not getting mad at stupid things,” senior Rebecca Minahan said.

Crowther was at Jonathan Law all day in the Media Center listening to students and social studies teachers.

The students made a presentation about the new 9/11 curriculum that Rowley and her history department colleagues wrote for Law. Law history teachers also presented what they would be teaching to the students through this curriculum.
