Imagine a hot summer day in Southern California with your feet in the sand and nothing but your feelings on your mind.

This is the best way to describe indie rock band Best Coast’s sound and their new EP “Fade Away”.

The band’s last album “The Only Place”, released last year, was very weak and pathetic compared to their other work like “Crazy For You”. Their new EP brings back the classic puppy love sound from the ‘60’s that they are well known for doing. The songs on the EP have more of a pop sound than other lo-fi songs they have put out.

Best Coast seems to be virtuosos when it comes to EP’s, “Make You Mine” and “Something in the Way” were some work they did in the past that had some of their best songs. Unlike these EP’s, “Fade Away” isn’t lo-fi and has more songs on it.

On songs like “This Lonely Morning” and “I Don’t Know How”, the vocals are very hypnotizing while the guitar tracks are simple, but such a good fit to the beat. The best songs on the EP have to be “I Wanna Know” and “Who Have I Become?” these songs really bring back the greatness this band can offer to listeners. Their catchy choruses can hook anyone who loves the simple aspects of pop music because Best Coast perfects it here.

The weaker songs on the EP have to be “Baby I’m Crying” and “Fade Away”. These songs just don’t have a kick like the rest of them do, but not the worst material they’ve put out.

Overall, this EP is very impressive and is easily the best one the indie duo has written. It’s very fun to listen to and people can enjoy it without forcing it on them. Hopefully when the band releases their next full length album in a year it won’t be a bust like the last one.
