The Jonathan Law girls soccer team played a fierce game against Foran on their Senior Night.
Down 2-1 with only two minutes left, senior Janessa Soucy tied the game, and in the process, took away Foran’s hope for the state tournament.
Foran scored the first goal of the game just before halftime, but Law battled back soon after.
“When Foran scored the first goal, we wanted it back so bad,” senior captain Kasey Butts said. “It was our Senior Night and we wanted to win more than ever.”
Foran goalie Carly Pala faced many shots as the game went on, but let none by. That was until captain Shea Lagonigro scored on a header to tie it up at 1-1 less than five minutes into the second half.
“In my four years playing at law I never got a goal,” said Lagonigro. “To get a goal during my Senior Night and to tie it up meant the world to me.”
Coming into the game, Law already had a guaranteed spot in the state tournament for the first time since 1991.
“Even though we already made states, we wanted to play the best we could against Foran because of how we played last time,” Butts said.
Foran took the lead back with a goal with just over 13 minutes to play. That made the score 2-1.
“When we saw that goal it just made everyone want to step it up just a little bit more and do it for the seniors,” senior Cassie Packer said.
With two minutes left in the game, Law made a rush down the field and passed the ball over to Soucy who scored to tie the game up at 2-2.
“As I scored that goal in the last two minutes I know that I did not only do that for myself, but for the rest of my team and my fellow seniors,” Soucy said.
