SPORTS: Girls Basketball Season Comes To An End
By Melissa Nelson – Entertainment Editor
The Jonathan Law girls basketball team ended their season last week, however it did not end the way they had hoped.
Their regular season resulted in 10 wins and 10 losses. They then went 1-2 in the SCC and state playoffs.
Jonathan Law won the first round of the SCC Tournament 56-45 against Sheehan High School. They went on to the second round, eventually losing to Career Magnet 54-41.
“The SCC tournament is probably the hardest conference to win,” said senior Phoebe French. “I’m content with how far we went in the tournament.”
Qualifying for the Class M State Tournament, 27th seed Jonathan Law faced 6th seed Waterford High. After long tough game, they suffered a 61-37 loss.
“As sad as I am for the season to end, I couldn’t have had a better time,” said senior captain Kim Legen. “I will remember my teammates and this season for the rest of my life.”
Law will be losing six seniors next year: French, Legen, Jackie Kochiss, Nya Ramos, Emily Sabo, and Ashley Kirkland.
“I am confident that next season will go well with the underclassmen we have,” said Kochiss.
Law will turn to their three returning varsity juniors Sam Murphy, captain Catie Miller, and Hayley Soulier. All three contributed to the team’s success this season and plan on working hard in the off season to make next year even better.
