NEWS: Law Welcomes Back Graduates
After spending four years at Jonathan Law, it’s no surprise that some newly admitted college students could begin to miss their high school days.
The annual “Welcome Back Graduates” Day, organized by the National Honor Society, provides these nostalgic students the opportunity to return to Law and discuss their college lives.
“I’m really happy with how it went,” said National Honor Society advisor Ms. Turcotte-Mottas. “The kids really seemed to enjoy themselves, and a lot of them showed up.”
The purpose of the day is to allow for new college students to talk with current juniors and seniors about college – from the application process to what they do on Saturday nights.
“I really enjoy the opportunity,” said Law alumni and current Providence College student Marilyn Rideout. “It’s nice to be able to help students avoid some of the pitfalls we’ve had.”
The college students began by answering questions from the National Honor Society, but by the end almost all of the questions were coming from the audience. They covered topics from daily life at college, the shift in academic expectations, the food they eat, and how they deal with homesickness.
“Everything they said was really helpful,” Law senior Freddy Hanania said. “I really feel more prepared for having attended.”
While there is little doubt as to how much the event helps juniors and seniors, even the graduates get something out of it.
“It’s really nice just to see everyone from high school again,” said Law graduate and current University of Maine student Kevin McFadden. “I missed all of my teachers so much.”
