NEWS: Law Knitting Club Looks For New Members

There’s no group more “tightly-knit” than the Jonathan Law knitting club.
Anyone interested in crafting their own personal hats, scarves, socks, and more can learn to do so in this new group.
The club was founded last year by sophomore Elizabeth Gregorio, who has been knitting since she was seven.
“You can make anything,” Gregorio said. “There are some really cool patterns out there.”
Last year, there were only two regular members and the club only met a few times, but there are high hopes for many new participants this year.
Gregorio helps to teach new knitters along with faculty advisor and nurse Mrs. Toomey.
Two new members joined last Wednesday, and learned as they began simple scarves for their first items. Both students proclaimed the first meeting to be a good experience.
Knitters can make all types of clothing for themselves, as well as be able to make great gifts for friends and family.
“I’m actually making my friend’s birthday present right now,” Gregorio said. “She likes Harry Potter, so I’m making her a hat that’s worn in Ravenclaw.”
It’s tricky to learn at first, but a very rewarding skill once it’s mastered.
“When I was first learning, I can’t tell you how many times it all just fell apart,” Toomey said.
Any pro would say that looking back at the very first projects is part of the fun.
“You can always look back at that first scarf for a little laugh though,” Gregorio said.
New members should bring $6 to pay for needles, unless they bring their own.
The club will meet again on Wednesday, January 18 in the Senior Cafe, but is still deciding on a permanent weekday to meet.
