SPORTS: Kochiss Prepares For Her Senior Season

The Lady Lawmen have high expectations for senior Jackie Kochiss this year.

Kochiss has been working hard all summer and fall for the upcoming 2011-2012 basketball season.

Kochiss is one of the tallest players on the team. She will have a lot of key responsibilities this year, including grabbing rebounds, blocking shots, and defending the post.

Kochiss is also one of the team’s captains; she leads the team on and off the court and tries to be a role model to her younger teammates.

“I try to be the best person I can be on and off the court,” said Kochiss. “I try to do everything our coach asks of me so that the younger players will learn through example.”

The Lady Lawmen have very high expectations, not only for their seniors, but for the team as well. If they continue to work as hard as they can every practice and game, then these expectations can be met.

“I really believe we can win a state championship this year,” said Phoebe French, a senior teammate. “We have worked way too hard these past few years to not achieve our highest goal that we have set.”

Kochiss was chosen as a captain for her great attitude, her leadership, her basketball experience, and her skills on and off the court.

“I keep the team motivated by cheering them on and shouting good shot or nice play even if the play or shot turns into a turnover,” said Kochiss. “I try picking up my teammates when they are down and keep them thinking positive.”

The Lady Lawmen have a very tough schedule this year against teams like Hillhouse, Sheehan, and Sacred Heart.

“With our hard work and determination, I think we can achieve anything at this point,” said Kochiss.
