ENTERTAINMENT: ‘Breaking Dawn: Part 1’ Sets Bar Low

The end is finally near for the “Twilight” franchise, but is it going out with a bang?

“Twilight” films are not known for stellar acting performances that deserve an Oscar, or amazing special effects. Yet, the “Twilight” franchise has a strong fan base that continues to go to the movies, making it so successful.

Unlike past films, the lead character, Bella Swan is actually smiling. Why is this? Well of course, it is one of the most anticipated scenes in the entire movie franchise; Bella finally marries Edward!

Bella is a bit nervous about the wedding, because initially, she wanted to just turn into a vampire. Sneaky Edward though makes her marry him first, and then he would turn her.

The wedding is met with some scandal, seeing that her best friend Jacob, a werewolf, has an ancient rivalry with vampires, and Bella’s husband is a vampire. Jacob is upset over the fact that Bella chose Edward, but he is enraged when Bella reveals to him that Edward is going to turn Bella into a vampire.

Jacob runs away, and Bella feels guilty. Edward takes her mind off of Jacob by taking her to a private island for their honeymoon. The honeymoon starts out great, then ends on a sour note when something unexpected and life changing occurs.

For regular moviegoers who are curious about the hype of “Breaking Dawn Part 1,”  it gets a low grade because of how comical the acting is. The worst acting is done during the scene where Jacob is in wolf form talking to the other wolves. They all sounded like Power Rangers; that is the best way I can describe that scene.

Die-hard “Twilight” fans would probably give the movie 4 out of 5 stars, seeing that this was the best acting out of the entire movie franchise, but the bar has been set low.

Rating: 2-2.5 stars out of 5
