The saying “there’s always next year” is applicable as ever for Law football following their matchup against Foran this past Thanksgiving.
The Lawmen struggled all game against the Lions offense, losing 48-13 and officially leaving them with an 0-10 record.
Law’s defense was broken down by Foran QB Matt Aspinwall, who completed 11 of his 12 passes, while tacking on 93 rushing yards of his own. The rushing attack was led by Dave Yerxa who ran for 176 yards and scored three touchdowns.
Law fell behind quickly, with Foran putting up 20+ points in both the first and second quarters. But the game slowed down in the second half, with only a total of 20 points scored between both teams.
On the defensive side, missed tackles were an issue for Law. Several plays that could have been stopped at or around the line of scrimmage turned into quick first downs.
Foran was able to gain quick, easy points via long breakaway scores. Each Foran receiver was able to pick up at least one 30+ yard reception.
On the offensive side, Law was hurt by six turnovers – four on fumbles, and two on interceptions, many of which turned into Foran scores.
Law put up their 13 points on a Joe Ziebell rushing score and on Connor Falaguerra’s fourth receiving touchdown of the year.
Sophomore QB Timmy Maher played the full game following limited reps against East Haven due to injury. Maher completed 5 of his 10 passes for 76 yards.
Law’s annual MVP awards went to the team’s captains: the offensive MVP went to Falaguerra, the defensive award to George Knoth.
Aafter a long weekend, dedicated players are back in the gym getting ready for the distant 2012 season.
“In terms of Foran, they will be much weaker next year, and we look to capitalize on that,” said Knoth. “But our focus is much more based on a successful 2012 season.”
