NEWS: Law Hosts Open House
With every new school year brings with it new freshmen, and with new freshmen comes the responsibility of preparing them for their first year of high school.
Jonathan Law High School does this through the 8th Grade Open House. In this three-hour event, held on Wednesday, October 19, Jonathan Law seniors brought the future freshmen throughout the school, showing off some of what Law has to offer.
“It gives the middle schoolers an idea of what Jonathan Law is like,” junior and Key Club member Ratan Manohar said. “It encourages them to look forward to Law.”
The tour went to each section of the school where teachers gave a brief explanation of how their subjects are run.
“The teachers informed potential students of the courses, activities, sports, and support that Jonathan Law offers to all its students,” said Law history teachers Mr. Iacono, who organized the whole event. “Our hope was that we showcased what we do so well here at Law – support student learning and individual growth.”
The students’ role in the open house is less than previous years, but they still provided many demonstrations, answered questions about clubs and activities, and questions about academics.
Law senior Matt Oullette is one such student. He gave a demonstration of the robotics class, where a robot that he programmed himself introduced itself to the freshmen.
“Open House was a huge success with a large turnout,” Outlette said. “I think we did a good job at getting them interested and excited in their first year of high school.”
The hope is that the eighth grade Open House continues to be an effective and fun way to dip incoming students’ feet into the next four years of their academic lives.
