NEWS: Keyettes To Host Halloween Blood Drive
By Alexis Christy – News Editor
For some, the sound of ghosts and goblins and blood sucking vampires just isn’t appealing. That isn’t a problem. This year on Halloween, students and teachers at Jonathan Law can give their blood to something better.
On October 31, Law will be hosting its annual fall blood drive for the American Red Cross, in the new gym, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event will be hosted by the Law Keyettes Club.
“We hope to collect 60 pints of blood,” said the Keyettes’ advisor, Mrs. Jaekle. “We have a lot of dedicated Keyettes who will be recruiting donors and volunteering that day.”
All blood donators must be at least 17 years of age and no less than 110 pounds
“I look forward to helping at this year’s event,” said senior Bhaswati Chattopadhyay. “I really like that we can bring groups of students together for a good cause.”
The Keyettes say they expect a good turnout this year and for some members, hosting the event will be a new experience.
“This will be my first year donating, but I feel like we’re going to do well this year,” said junior and Keyettes vice president Anisha Manglani.
The event has been in existence for over 12 years, and will be hosted again by the Key Club in the spring. The Keyettes believe that this month’s event, which falls on a holiday, is guaranteed to be successful.
“The fact that it falls on Halloween makes it even more special,” said Jaekle. “What better way to celebrate than giving blood!”
For more information, students can see Mrs. Jaekle in room 221, or see one of the Keyettes officers.
